Bollards are better than fences

Have you ever stopped to notice how ugly chain link fences are? I notice them everywhere. They’re cold, unwelcoming, fall into disrepair and contribute to blight. They’re easy to penetrate (snip, snip!) and trash collects along them. In many cases it would be better to just tear them down.

Fences like this one are ugly, hazardous, and lead to blight. Photo credit Chicago Tribune.

Bollards are a great alternative to fences. Foot traffic can pass through (that’ll get through anyway), and keep motor vehicles out. They come in many shapes and can be implemented at a variety of price points. They can be made to look artistic, and local artists can decorate them.

I’d like to see fewer fences, and more bollards.

Bollards come in a variety of materials like wood timber (above), concrete, and metal. Photo credit K-Line Fencing Group.
